Revenue versus Expenses
Our adoption fee for cats and dogs is $65.
This fee often does not cover basic costs, which can include:
- Spay (females) or Neuter (male)
- Flea Treatment
- Testing For Heartworm Disease for most dogs and FeLV/FIV for some cats
Costs can increase by hundreds of dollars for a single pet if the pet requires treatment. Heartworm disease treatment take months of care and about $400. We receive some discounts, but most of the big discounts and donations go to the biggest traditional shelters.
While we could raise adoption fees, this would delay some adoptions and eliminate some adoptions, increasing our expenses until the pet is adopted. Also, while we attempt to keep pets safe and healthy while in our care, pets are only truly safe - and much happier - when they are adopted into their own families.
Donating Supplies versus Donating Cash
We can use some supplies, such as dog crates and cat carriers. We also can use Nature's Miracle, leashes, and Nylabone chew toys. We do spend a lot of time shopping for bargains, so instead of buying new items to donate, we suggest donations of cash instead.
